In hotel management, flooring is not merely a decorative choice but an operational expense that directly impacts revenue. Every room that remains closed during renovations means those nights cannot be sold. Therefore, when selecting flooring materials for hotels, factors such as installation time, maintenance costs, and ease of repair must be evaluated alongside aesthetics.
The reason for the increasing use of LVT (Luxury Vinyl Tile) in lodging facilities in recent years lies in the advantages it offers in these three areas.
Renovation time directly translates to lost revenue
LVT can be installed without removal as long as the existing floor is smooth and sound. Since there is no need for demolition, debris removal, or waiting for the subfloor to cure, room blocks can be reopened for use much more quickly.
With hardwood or ceramic tile installations, the existing flooring must be removed, the subfloor prepared, and the curing time allowed. Since these steps are not required with LVT, renovations can be completed during short off-season maintenance periods.
Footfall noise is one of the top guest complaints
One of the most common complaints in hotels is the sound of footsteps coming from the floor above or the hallway. Hard flooring transmits this sound between floors.
LVT reduces footfall noise at the source thanks to its flexible structure and sound-insulated underlayment options. This difference is particularly noticeable in hallways and upper-floor rooms. Since the sound insulation value varies depending on the combination of the product and the underlayment, the selection should be made during the project planning phase.
Luggage wheels wear down the floor
The load to which hotel floors are subjected differs from that of residential floors. Hallways and room entrances are subject to constant luggage wheel traffic throughout the day. This results in localized and repetitive wear.
The wear layer of LVT is manufactured according to commercial use classes. When making selections for hotel projects, the product’s wear class must be suitable for the use of the lodging facility. Using a product manufactured for residential use in a hotel hallway will lead to surface loss within a few seasons.
No swelling issues in wet areas
Wood-based flooring swells and develops gaps when it comes into contact with water. In hotel rooms, the bathroom exit, minibar area, and balcony access points are areas constantly exposed to moisture.
LVT is a waterproof material. Therefore, the same flooring can be continued seamlessly through bathroom entrances and along the boundaries of wet areas without the need to change materials. Using a single material throughout the room ensures visual cohesion and eliminates issues arising from joint details.
Damaged areas can be repaired by replacing a single tile
This is LVT’s most practical feature from a hotel management perspective. When a burn mark, scratch, or impact damage occurs, there is no need to remove the entire floor; only the damaged tile is replaced.
Since this process can be completed in a few hours, the room does not have to be taken out of service for an extended period. With roll materials, the same repair often requires renovating the entire room.
Visual consistency can be extended from the lobby to the guest rooms
LVT is produced with wood and natural stone textures as well as special pattern options. By using different patterns from the same product family in lobbies, hallways, and guest rooms, a consistent design language can be established across spaces.
Since the material remains the same, maintenance procedures are standardized across the entire facility. This simplifies the cleaning staff’s work and reduces surface damage caused by the use of incorrect chemicals.
Fire Safety and Slip Resistance Requirements
Accommodation facilities are classified as public buildings, and flooring must meet specific fire resistance and slip resistance requirements. A separate slip resistance class is specified for wet areas and pool surroundings.
During the project phase, these values must be verified in accordance with the facility’s licensing and insurance requirements. Reviewing technical data sheets before selecting products prevents potential non-compliance issues later on.

Company officials noted that production efficiency increased following the implementation and that cleaning and maintenance times were significantly reduced. The flooring system installed by Mineteko also offered advantages in terms of long-term use. The project proved to be a significant asset for the facility thanks to the hygiene and ease of use it provided.
